Real Estate Boom in India – Missing a Trick?

We all know India has always had a history of unfulfilled energy demands, all the new economic advances notwithstanding. The boom has just exacerbated the situation.

Now, if you travel across India, you see buildings being constructed all over the country (residential and office). The government, the real estate developers and owners seem to be missing a trick when it came to new construction. (Mind you this is applicable to existing buildings as well)

Given that most of the places in India, Sun is abundant, I do not see any attempts being made to install Solar Panels on the roofs of buildings. If I were Indian government, which is desparately trying to find ways of conserving, generating energy to meet the demands across the country, I would mandate that all new construction should include Solar rooftops. I would also tack on a subsidy for the builders, and have the buyers pay for the rest of it as part of their building ownership.

If you are talking about a fully-furnished high tech building, one with Solar Power will only make it a notch higher. It might not meet all the energy needs but it would meet some of the needs. Maybe it will just serve all the Air-Conditioners in the building. The buyers of the residential/office space would also do well to reduce their energy bills thanks to a one time investment. Talk about a win-win situation.

Since everything and anything is a lobby in India, I don’t see why the Solar equipment vendors don’t get a bill like this passed.
